Society permissions and lift booking
Almost every group housing society in Delhi NCR has rules for moving in and out. Before you book a date, ask the society office or RWA at both ends about:
- Move-out permission or a no-dues certificate (maintenance, electricity backup and water charges paid).
- Gate pass for the truck and crew, sometimes with names and vehicle numbers in advance.
- Lift booking for a specific slot, and whether the lift must be padded.
- Allowed hours, often around 9 AM to 6 PM, with no moves on some holidays.
- Refundable deposit some societies take against lift or common-area damage.
Tell your mover the timings so they can size the crew to finish loading within the window.
Truck entry in Delhi
Delhi restricts when larger goods vehicles may enter and run on city roads, to keep traffic moving in the daytime. Rules differ by vehicle size and road, and they change, so your mover should plan the vehicle and the timing. For big intercity moves, movers often load a smaller vehicle at your home and transfer goods to the long-haul truck outside the restricted area, or schedule loading at a permitted time.
GRAP pollution curbs in winter
Between October and January, Delhi NCR applies the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) when air quality worsens. At the stricter stages, entry of many diesel goods vehicles into Delhi is restricted, with exemptions for cleaner vehicles such as CNG, electric and BS-VI diesel. If you are moving in winter, ask your mover which vehicle they will use and whether it is allowed at the current GRAP stage. Check the current stage on the CAQM website a day before the move.
New: BS-VI rule for trucks from outside Delhi
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has barred commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi from entering the city unless they meet the BS-VI standard or run on CNG, LNG or electricity. BS-IV goods vehicles from outside Delhi were given time until 31 October 2026. From 1 November 2026, if your mover's truck is registered in another state and is not BS-VI, CNG, LNG or electric, it may be stopped at the border. Ask about the vehicle before you book.
Paperwork for your goods
Used household goods moved for your own use are personal effects, so a GST e-way bill is not normally required. Your mover should give you an inventory and a consignment note, and you may be asked to sign a short self-declaration that the goods are personal. Carry your ID and the address of both homes.
