Month by month in Delhi
- February to April is the most comfortable time to move: pleasant weather, no rain and fewer school-related moves than in summer.
- May and June are hot, often above 40°C. Moves are best started early in the morning, with water breaks for the crew and extra care for electronics, candles and medicines.
- July to September is monsoon. Expect waterlogging in low-lying colonies; your mover should use tarpaulin-covered trucks and waterproof wrapping.
- October and November are peak season around Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, when many families shift on auspicious dates. Book two to three weeks early. Air quality also starts to fall, which can bring GRAP curbs on some trucks.
- December and January bring fog and smog; long-distance trucks may run slower, so allow an extra day.
Best days of the week and month
Weekdays are easier to book and often quicker, as roads and society lifts are less busy. Weekends suit people who cannot take leave but fill up fast. Around the 25th to the 5th of each month, rental agreements end and demand rises, so moving mid-month usually means more choice of dates.
Shifting on a muhurat
Many families prefer to move into a new home on an auspicious date and time (griha pravesh muhurat). Muhurat dates depend on the panchang for the year and on your family's own traditions, so confirm the exact date and time with your family priest or a trusted panchang. Once you have the date, book your mover early, because these days are the first to sell out. If the muhurat time is early in the morning, you can do a small griha pravesh ceremony at the time and move the rest of your goods later the same day.
Plan around the weather
